Any suggestions or comments on how to pick an ebook publisher?

I'm putting together an ebook for college students and parents that will help them save money on everyday college expenses. I'm nearing the end of the book and have begun to think about the next step - publishing. I've never published an ebook before and am not really sure what I should be looking for in a publisher. I just started doing my homework on this, so any comments or suggestions would be great.

Thanks,

Seth

So I've been looking into this a little more in preparation for the Automate My Small Business eBook. Though we haven't made a final decision about this yet, we will probably use something like the following for distributing our eBook.

We will sell the book directly on our website using a distribution system like Fetch. This will enable us to embed Buy Now paypal or google checkout buttons on our wordpress site. We also have the option of creating an online store using Shopify.

We will publish to Amazon.com for the kindle (and kindle software) using amazon's digital text platform. We will publish to the Sony Reader using Smashwords or Author Solutions. We may publish to Target.com using Zinio. I have not figured out the right way to target the B&N nook. I seems like you might have to become a registered vendor with B&N, but I'm not sure if that's for print books only.

We are also considering publishing on Scribd, Lulu, and Google Books. All these things expand the distribution of book and give it a wider reach. We may not do all these things at once, but we'll update the question with what we actually do.

I came across this site when looking for some online mags. I haven't looked too much into it but apparently you can create publish and sell your books right from the site. I don't know if it's exactly what your'e looking for but it might be worth a look.

Checkout e-Junkie - Upload your eBook and they take care of everything for $5 a month. I haven't tried them yet but am planning to.

One site I have used is MyEbook. They have a poweful tool for creating the ebook, as well as an ecommerce function linked to paypal, to enable you to sell both digital and hardcopies of your book.
