Domain squatters
I keep finding that when I search for a domain name for an idea, there's often a domain squatter who has already purchased that name. You know what I mean: they have barely anything on there, and it's mainly ads and enough so they don't (or might not) get Google-slapped.
Does anyone have experience negotiating with these kinds of people? What kind of pricing should I expect? Is there any resource which I could use to determine relative value?
I do expect that the real value is what I could do with it once I had it, but I'm looking for some general guidelines.
Thanks for any and all answers.
BTW - Love the podcast! You guys are doing a great job laying it out there in a clear and concise manner.

Similar situation few years ago. Folks had an idea that never went anywhere but still had the domain. Offered 1K, they countered 2K and we agreed at 1.5K. It was worth it since it was pulling teeth to come up with the name.
One issue to be aware of is are you buying the name outright or just a license to use it for a year or two. I'm always wary of those who won't sell you the full rights.
If your site is successful for a few years, you might find yourself paying a whole lot more than you did the first time when you need to renew the license/lease for the domain name.
Great question, I've never been successful with them, so I'll let someone else answer.
