Shopping Cart - Volusion, Shopify, or Cheapo
Can someone tell me the differences between using Volusion, Shopify, or Just using your companies template design and embedding a a PayPal "Buy Now" on your product page. Do Volusion or Shopify give you any kind of advantage?
Answers
Hello,
First off, here is a comparison between Volusion and Shopify: http://www.volusion.com/volusionshopifycomparison/
The big difference is that Shopify is going to charge transaction fees and Volusion won't!
Regarding your question on just embedding Paypal, I would advise against that. An online store is going to look more credible if it looks like a stand-alone business that accepts credit cards. You can always have credit cards AND Paypal and Google checkout, but you want your customers to have the option. This helps them feel more secure and you will be more likely to convert sales.

Just a follow up. Just started listening to the ASMB shopping cart podcast. Very helpful. Also thanks Molly. Will follow you on twitter. May try to get in touch with you as well.
Hello,
Are any of you Big Commerce users. What made you decide to go with them? Are there any advantages over Volusion and Shopify?
I found this: http://forums.shopify.com/categories/1/posts/39087 but it seems like most of the answers came from Shopify users and programmers.
Thank you
Byron
I am launching my store using BigCommerce. All those companies look OK but I just came away from my analysis really liking that company. I like the themes they offer better than Volusion's (sorry Molly). They also seem to be ahead in mobile. I also like the MailChimp integration. We use MailChimp already (so amazing) and we like the integration. They seem to focus on integration with companies like MailChimp and they have good service it seems. So, anyway, that's why I made the decision I made but I don't have any experiences yet.
Thanks for the BigCommerce suggestion. I am going to look into it. Also thanks for the info on MailChimp integration. If you do not mind could you share your site?
One thing I am a little confused about is during the shopping cart podcast, Matt or Brandon, said that if you change shopping carts you pretty much need to redo everything. So does that mean the shopping cart company is actually hosting your site? Not sure why changing shopping carts would not be just changing a pointer to the new provider. Sorry I am novice at this stuff.
