Time to contact a product manufacturer?

Hi guys,

Firstly, great job with the audio podcasts, good work.

Here´s the situation:

Provisional patents -done. Domain hosting -done. Wordpress website -done. Google adwords campaign -done. Shopping cart/ sorry `product testing page' -done.

Result

About a 10% conversion rate. Happy Days!!!!!! :)

Prototype/ Actual physical product

Now, should I be shipping out homemade prototypes? -mine are made with bungee ropes, pegs and garden twine! no joke! And look terrible. Although they work ok, there are a few refinements to be made, esthetic more than anything, and I feel really dodgy sending out my homemade efforts, especially since they dont look like the artists impression. However I remember a podcast where Brandon told us about making his porch potty at home in the garage.

Manufacturers

I have contacted a few manufacturers but have no clue about this industry. So, can anyone recommend the next stage? Would it be wise to contact Asian manufacturers or stay local in the early stage?

Cheers

Ben

Is this a good question?

Ben,

Have you found any manufacturers. My advice is to use local suppliers and factories to make your first few products. It makes it easier to make changes and get advice on how to make it better, or manufacturing better. Then once you get hundreds of sales, you can move your manufacturing to lower cost sources.

Check out MFG.com You can post your product and have manufacturers bid on it. If nothing else, it will give you a sense of price and a list of manufactureres to interview further.

Cheers Brandon,

I will check out MFG.com now, I have started to contact local manufacturers this month so will hopefully have a good prototype by June.
Thanks again for your assistance and great work with the previous podcasts.
