Where do I start?
Hi Guys,
I have two ideas based off of existing serviced based websites that I think could use major improvements. I have used both websites myself and have ideas on which business industries to target. I myself am in an industry that could really use this service, but the only one out there is pretty poor. Trouble is I don't know where to start. Both websites are technical on what they do and don't know who to contact to see if it can be done. I'm afraid that it will be too technical for what I want to do and cost a fortune to get it right. Do I try o desk, but don't really know the question to ask to post a job. I have no technical skills, but what I do have is the vision to see a hole in the market and an industry that would benefit. I need a person who can tell me who to talk to so I can find out if my idea is even possible.
Thanks!!!!

Maybe try interviewing yourself...pretend you have absolutely no idea what the service is, then follow the dead ends.
Good idea, thanks! I have actually tried explaining it to others and as a result I've clarified on what it is I'm trying to achieve.
Hi iwannaski,
Your question is like many that have a great idea but aren't sure where to start. You're starting out right by asking others before jumping in so you're on the right track.
My initial advice is to research the demand for your service or product and then understand the competition. If you have a sufficient demand and little competition then you have the first steps towards a viable business. I can't emphasis enough to put your feelings and desires aside and concentrate on gathering hard data to make an assessment of the direction you need to go. A great resource I use for this is the Market Samurai program which allows you to easily assess the demand and competition of pretty much any idea where there is internet activity (which is basically anything now days). I stand behind this product 100%.
Concerning the technical aspect of your question, if you have the resources (meaning money), hire a technical resource from oDesk or similar resource to assess the feasibility and cost of your idea. The more details you have on what you want to do the better to reduce the number of hours they will need to spend trying to figure it out.
Good luck!
