telephone based customer support

I'm currently launching a pure play web based business for a product I've developed and I'm looking into options for answering customer service calls. When I launch the site, I plan to field customer support calls myself so that I can get a handle on the most common questions. After that, I'm going to consider outsourcing this function, especially if I get a substantial number of calls. Anyone out there have experience with options for handling these calls (answer them yourself, hire a internet based phone service, hire someone locally and route calls there with ringcentral when they're on duty, etc)?

Is this a good question?

Hey Mike,

I am working on this same topic right now for our new ecommerce site. I need a customer service provider that is completely separate from our "bricks and mortar" operation. I am looking and when I get my research done I will be sure to come back here and post what I find. Please do the same if you have time. Two heads are better than one.

I am looking into freelancers (oDesk, etc...) as well as companies that specialize in customer service like this. I am curious if they are paid a fixed amount or depending on how many calls come in.

Thanks Shane

Shane,

Sounds good, I saw a similar post on another forum and there were two suggestions, one for a company called www.calldesk.com and one for a company called Lexitel Communications in West Palm Beach. Calldesk has diffent pricing and service options listed on their website and they seem to cater to internet startups, I don't know anything about the other. I'll let you know what else I find as I move forward.

Hey, guys!

Check out www.Grasshopper.com. That's who I use and they're excellent. Also, I outsource the call steward through Canada, as I prefer to keep language barriers to a minimum.

I hope this helps.

Check out elance. There are a lot of independents out there that freelance for multiple companies and some companies that specialize in customer service. Its better to look for companies based in us, Philippines, or Canada. The problem with the large call centers is that they deal with large accounts that need at least 10 representatives and the small ones don't have the sophisticated tracking and setup, at least that has been my experience.

We are actually looking into a full time customer service representative, once we find a solution, we will update you guys as well.

Thanks,
